On composer SA Rajkumar’s birthday, our song of the day is ‘Poonthendrale Nee’ from Manasukkul Mathappu (1988), starring Prabhu and Lizy, sung by Jayachandran and Sunanda. The song is a light duet composed and written by SA Rajkumar, and features a New Year’s eve music concert. The story takes a serious turn at the end of this song when Lizy, who plays a guitarist and Prabhu’s lover, dies of electrocution. The film follows Sekar (Prabhu)’s life after her death.

SA Rajkumar worked with directors Robert-Rajashekar for the second time after Chinna Poove Mella Pesu, his debut as a film composer. He composed for over a hundred Tamil and Telugu films including SuryavamsamAval VaruvalaUnnidathil Ennai Koduthen, Thulladha Manamum Thullum, and was well-known for the songs from the Kannada film Sevanthiye Sevanthiye.
