Our song of the day is ‘Injerungo Injerungo’ from Thenali (2000) directed by KS Ravikumar, and written by Crazy Mohan. Kamal Haasan plays a Sri Lankan Tamil who goes to Kodaikanal to see doctor Jayaram seeking treatment for his phobias. Here he meets Jayaram’s sister Jyotika and they fall in love.
Lyricist Thamarai, who went on to work on popular songs with AR Rahman, used the Jaffna slang for ‘Injerungo Injerungo’. ‘Ojaye Ojaye’ became a popular catch phrase. Jyotika and Kamal danced in New Zealand for this song, and it is one of Chithra’s best renditions.
