‘Indiran Vanthathum Chandiran Vanthathum Intha Cinema Thaan…’ from the 1985 Pandiarajan directorial Aan Paavam is our election-special song of the day. It’s a tribute to or commentary on cinema, its stars MGR, NTR and others, who have shaped the politics of the state and people.
Pandiarajan’s first release as writer-director was with the 1985 film Kanni Raasi, starring Prabhu and Revathi, which was a sleeper hit. He followed it with Aan Paavam, starring Revathi again, in which he played hero for the first time. ‘Indiran Vanthathum’ was composed and sung by Ilaiyaraaja. It’s a fast-paced, fun song from the film. Aan Paavam was one of the best comedy movies in the career of Pandiarajan, who is known for making his way through life too with humour.
