Happy birthday Manisha Koirala! Our song of the day is ‘Dil Se Re’ from the 1998 film Dil Se, composed by AR Rahman and set to lyrics by Gulzar. Shah Rukh Khan, who plays Amar, goes to Meghna (Manisha Koirala)’s village to confess his love for her, and here they romance even as explosions form the background in Assam, where the film is set. The song was a chartbuster after release, and continues to be one of AR Rahman’s most popular tracks.

Manisha Koirala is also best known for her role in Mani Ratnam’s Bombay (1995). She made her debut with the Nepali film Pheri Bhetaula in 1989, and later starred in the Dileep Kumar-starrer Saudagar. She has acted in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam films and is popular for 1942: Love Story, Khamoshi: The Musical, Mappillai, Dear Maya and Sanju.
