The trailer of Pink, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles, has been released. The film is set in Delhi. Taapsee plays a woman who is sexually assaulted by three men and hits them in her defense. Later, Taapsee and her roommate Kirti Kulhari, are framed for assaulting the man as the ‘powerful’ men turn the case around. The film is centered Indian women’s relationship with the legal system and media in India – both of which are morally judgemental.
The trailer shows a string of scenes that set your heart racing. The first scene shows a harrowed young woman in the court being asked if she’s a virgin. It’s followed by scenes of a young woman caught inside a closed car screaming for help, men holding her back, friends attending to her injuries later, people wanting them kicked out of their apartment, frustrating court scenes where manipulative lawyers shame the victim by her sexuality. Amitabh Bacchan looks scary as a stony-cold lawyer. The trailer is edited in a way that creates intrigue and makes you want to know more.
Produced by Shoojit Sircar, Ronnie Lahiri and Rashmi Sharma, Pink is directed by renowned Bengali director Aniruddha Roy Chaudhary. The film releases on the 16 September.
