‘Sarabham’ Salony Luthra’s Next Project Is ‘Bhanumathi Ramakrishna’

Actress Salony Luthra at the Sarabham Press Meet

Actress Salony Luthra of Sarabham fame has announced her next project on her official Twitter account. The film titled Bhanumathi Ramakrishna is directed by newcomer Srikanth Nagothi and produced by Yashwanth Mulukutla. Naveen Chandra plays the male lead. The two actors have worked in Sarabham, and this is the second film featuring them together.

The title has piqued interest, for it bears the name of the first female superstar of Telugu and Tamil cinema, Bhanumathi Ramakrishna, known for her prodigious talent across fields. She acted, directed, composed music, sang, produced movies, was an author and a lyricist!

Salony is known for her bold film choices and her inclination to take up challenging characters – in Sarabham, a 2014 neo noir mystery directed by Arun Mohan, she plays twins Shruti and Sanjana, as different as chalk and cheese. The film revolves around her and the actions of the characters she essays. In every crisis, her character stays on top of the situation and extracts revenge.

And so, it is expected that this new film will offer her a substantial opportunity to perform too. Salony received a standing ovation at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival in 2016 for the short film Oliyum Oliyum, in which she played a blind girl. The actress was also appreciated for her performance in the Hindi short Kajal, a film that details how a woman fights for her survival in a world dominated by men.

The actress has always chosen films that go against the grain. In Forbidden, which revolves around  honour killing in the United States, she plays Jasleen, a Punjabi woman who was killed by her family. The film is based on the true story of Jasleen, an American girl of Indian origin. Two of her films – Kajal and Forbidden – have been screened at the New York Indian Film Festival.

On the work front, Salony has Vinodhan, a Tamil drama film written and directed by Victor Jayaraj and produced by Prabhu Deva. The film also features Varun and Vedhika. As for Naveen Chandra, he is working on Chandamama Raave.
