Actor And TDP Leader Nandamuri Harikrishna Dies In A Road Accident

Nandamuri Harikrishna, actor, TDP leader and son of former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh NT Rama Rao, died in a road mishap near Nalgonda in Telangana early on Wednesday morning. He was 61. He is the father of popular actor Junior NTR.

According to a report in NDTV, the accident took place at 6.30 am when the actor-politician was driving his Toyota Fortuner to attend a wedding in Nellore. An official said the car hit the median at high-speed and Harikrishna was thrown out of the driver’s seat and suffered serious head and chest injuries. Two other occupants in the car sustained minor injuries. More details are awaited.

It is also said that Harikrishna was rushed to Kamineni Hospital, 15 km away from the accident spot, where he was declared dead at 7.30 am. According to a report in The New Indian Express, doctors in the hospital said Harikrishna was brought in with serious head injuries and severe blood loss.

Hearing the news, various leaders from political parties and celebrities from the film industry expressed their condolences to his family.

 

In 1980, Harikrishna drove around his father NT Rama Rao’s Chaitanya Ratham, a customised Chevrolet van, in the nine-month campaign during the inception of the TDP and was also made State Transport Minister when NTR became Chief Minister.

He was the fourth son of NT Rama Rao and was a Rajya Sabha member between 2008 and 2013. His sons Kalyan Ram and Junior NTR are actors, while his eldest son, Nandamuri Janakiram was killed in a road accident in 2014 in the same district.

Harikrishna made his debut in films as a child artiste in Krishnavataram in 1964 and was seen in guest roles in films such as Ram Rahim and Daana Veera Sura Karna. He then took a break from films and entered politics. He returned to films in 1998 with a cameo in Mohan Babu-starrer Sriramulayya.
