Kabali Hit With Lawsuit Over Insensitive Lyrics

Kabali’s legal team will be tasked with defending yet another lawsuit in court. A Madurai resident, Maharajan, has filed a petition with the local court against the film. The song Ulagam Oruvanukka is the reason for this latest case. In his petition, Maharajan has alleged that some of the lyrics (by Kabilan) offend caste sentiments. Moreover, the lyrics in question, ‘kalagam seidhu aandaiyarin kathai mudippaan’ have incited arguments and disputes on social media, he says. Maharajan says that these lines hurt the sentiments of backward castes and promote communal disharmony, and has moved the court to order its removal. Though he’d made repeated requests to the police to help in the matter, Maharajan has alleged that nothing of note has been done in this regard. The case will be heard by the Madurai court soon.

Earlier this week, Devarajan had filed a case in the Madras High Court seeking a ban on the release of the film. In his petition, he asked the court to restrict the film’s release as tickets to watch it were being sold at exorbitant prices. Thus far the film’s director Pa Ranjith, producer S Thanu, nor music composer Santhosh Narayanan have commented on either of the issues. The film’s music was released on 12 June. Starring Rajinikanth and Radhika Apte  the film will be released this Friday.
