Weekend Watch: It is Vada Chennai Vs Sandakozhi 2

This week’s Tamil releases are Vada Chennai, Sandakozhi 2, Ezhumin and Andava Kaanom. Malayalam has Koodasha, while Hello Guru Prema Kosame is the Telugu new release. Badhaai Ho, Namaste England and Dark Side of Life: Mumbai City are the Hindi releases.

Vada Chennai

Directed by National Award winner Vetrimaaran, Vada Chennai is a gangster drama which stars Dhanush in the lead. Produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Studios, the movie also features Aishwarya Rajesh, Samuthirakani, Andrea Jeremiah, Daniel Balaji and Kishore in pivotal roles. Santhosh Narayanan has scored the music for the movie while Velraj, a regular collaborator of the director, is the cinematographer.

Sandakozhi 2/ Pandem Kodi 2

It is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, directed by N Lingusamy and starring Vishal Krishna in the lead. The film is an action drama which revolves around Balu (Vishal), who after 13 years, returns to protect his family from an old foe.

Produced by Vishal Film Factory and Pen Studios, the film also stars Keerthy Suresh, Rajkiran, Arjai and Ganja Karuppu. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar will be seen playing the antagonist. Music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Ezhumin

Directed by VP. Viji, the film is an action drama which is focused on the importance of martial arts and self-defense. Produced by Vaiyam Mediyas, the film stars Vivek, Devayani, Premkumar, Alagamperumal, Pasanga Sivakumar, Dileepan and Latha Rao. The music for the film is composed by Ganesh Chandrasekaran.

Andava Kaanom

Directed by newcomer Velmathy, the film is all about the search for a precious utensil (Anda). Produced by J Sathish Kumar of JSK Film Corporation, the film stars Sriya Reddy, Muniskanth along with others, and features voice-overs of Vijay Sethupathi.

Talking about the film, Sriya told Firstpost, “I didn’t want to be known as a sexy actor. I wanted my ten minutes that will make the viewers say now that’s an actor. I returned to acting because of Andava Kaanom. It was my husband and brother-in-law who heard the story first, and when I was hesitating to take the offer they said I should take it.”

Koodasha

Directed by debutant Dinu Thomas Eelan, Koodasha is an intense drama starring Baburaj in the lead. Produced by OMR group, the film also stars Krittika Pradeep, Saikumar, Joy Mathew and Devan in pivotal roles. The music for the film is composed by Vishnu Mohan Sithara while the lyrics are penned by Harinarayanan BK.

“I played somebody and made a choice. But everything you do is a part of you and you get something from it. That is life. So I don’t regret anything. I have been doing so many comedy roles and getting a serious character like the one Koodasha is good. I cherished every moment of it and I am excited about it,” said Baburaj while talking about his character to Deccan Chronicle.

Hello Guru Prema Kosame

It is a romantic comedy directed by Trinadha Rao Nakkina and starring Ram Pothineni and Anupama Parameswaran. Produced by Sri Venkateswara Creations, the film also stars Prakash Raj, Pranitha, Sithara, V Jayaprakash and Posani Krishna Murali.

The film revolves around a man who is in a lookout to impress his lady love. The music for the film is composed by Devi Sri Prasad.

Badhaai Ho

Directed by Amit Sharma, the film is a slice of life romance drama which revolves around the life of a Railway Ticket Collector, who lives with his spouse, two grown up children and his mother.

Jointly produced by Junglee Pictures and Chrome Pictures, the film stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra in the lead, along with Gajraj Rao, Neena Gupta, Sheeba Chaddha and Surekha Sikri. The background score for the film is composed by Abhishek Arora.

Namaste England

A romance drama directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, Namaste England revolves around a young couple, whose love story travels from Punjab to Dhaka to Paris to Brussels, and finally to London. The film stars Arjun Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra and Aditya Seal in the lead roles.

Produced by Pen India Limited, the background score for the film is composed by Prasad Sashte.

The Dark Side of Life: Mumbai City

Directed by a debutant Tariq Khan, this multiple-plot drama revolves around the lives of seven individuals who are pushed to the brink of depression while battling their emotional and financial problems. The film stars Mahesh Bhatt, Kay Kay Menon, Neha Khan, Deepraj Rana and others. It is produced by Lakshya Productions.
