Suriya and Uriyadi director Vijay Kumar will come together to produce a sequel to the hit 2017 film. It will star Vijay Kumar in the lead role, with Uriyadi cast members Shankardas and Abbas also along for the ride. Vismaya, a Malayalam industry-based actor, will make her Tamil debut through this movie, a press release from 2D Entertainment said.
Madras Central fame Sudhakar has a key role in the movie that will attempt to showcase socially relevant themes with some commercial elements added in.
News of Uriyadi 2 has been in circulation the past week, but this is the first official confirmation of the project.
Vijay Kumar will serve as co-producer on the sequel. His Souvenir Productions, launched in 2013, will partner with Suriya’s 2D Entertainment for the project.
There are some major changes in the technical crew of Uriyadi 2. The cinematography is by Praveen Kumar, who assisted Paul Livingstone in the original. Replacing Abinav Sunder Nayak as the editor is debutant Linu. Ezhumalai Adhikesavan has been charged with the art direction of the movie.
Music for the original was by Masala Coffee, who re-imagined their addictive Kaantha number for the Tamil audience. In Uriyadi 2, Govind Vasantha has been tasked with composing the soundtrack.

The new film has the tagline ‘Thathagida Thathagida Thithom’, and this is reflected in the background score of the motion poster as well. Shooting for the project begins today.
A spokesperson for 2D Entertainment said, “We are always on the lookout for films that promote awareness, and Uriyadi 2 is a film that ticks all the boxes. We are excited to team up with a young and energetic filmmaker like Vijay Kumar for the project.”
As always, the expectation is that the 2D Entertainment head – actor Suriya – might essay a role in the movie. The spokesperson though did not confirm or deny the actor’s involvement.
