‘Vaayadi Petha Pulla’, Sung by Sivakarthikeyan and Daughter, Gets 600K Likes

Kanaa is Sivakarthikeyan’s maiden production, and it is already making news. A single from the film, ‘Vaayadi Petha Pulla’ sung by Sivakarthikeyan and his daughter Aradhana Sivakarthikeyan has been garnering steady views on YouTube. The song, composed by Dhibu Ninan Thomas and written by GKB, also features Vaikom Vijayalakshmi.

The actor tweeted:

Directed by Arunraja Kamaraj, Kanaa is the story of a village girl who dreams of becoming a cricketer. Hence, the title ‘Kanaa’ that translates into ‘dream’. It features Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead, and has Sathyaraj playing the role of her father – a farmer. The teaser for the film shows Sathyaraj handing over a cricket bat to his daughter.

Unlike most other projects where stars are brought in to sing songs for the sake of publicity, it is safe to assume that it was this father-daughter relationship in Kanaa that has prompted the makers to bring in Sivakarthikeyan and his daughter to sing the track. Confirming the father-daughter angle, the director told Business Standard “This story is about following our passions. How crucial family-support is in a person’s dream fulfillment.”

Kamaraj, who initially began his career as a writer and lyricist, said direction was always on his mind. “I was driven to cinema by direction, which has been a long-time dream. In fact, I entered the industry with the hope of becoming a director but I had to write to support myself,” said the director, best known for penning ‘Neruppuda‘ from Rajinikanth’s 2016 movie Kabali.

The Indian Women’s cricket team’s performance in the recent past has made the country sit up and take note of the game and the players, but the director says that he wrote the script much before the ICC women’s world cup.
