TV Actress Nilani Arrested For Making Derogatory Comments Against TN Police

Television actress Nilani, whose controversial video condemning the police firing in Thoothukudi on May 22 went viral on the social media, was arrested on Wednesday in Coonoor, reported the Deccan Chronicle.

In the video, the actress was seen in a police uniform and was allegedly heard saying, “I am ashamed to be wearing the police uniform after the brutal firings. They are trying to turn Tamizhans into terrorists, but we are protesting peacefully.”

The report added that the Vadapalani police registered a case against her based on a complaint, for allegedly making derogatory remarks against cops and the government.

According to a report, ever since the video went viral, the actress has been hiding in her relative’s house in Coonoor.

On Wednesday evening, the police produced the actress before the judicial magistrate court in Coonoor. She will be taken to Chennai and produced before the court at Saidapet on Thursday. She was booked under various Indian Penal Code sections, including 153 (wantonly provocative with intent to cause riot), and under the Information Technology Act.

According to another report, the actress apologized to the cops saying, “I spoke out in anger. I am ready to face the consequences of the case as per the law.”
