Tamil Nadu BJP chief Tamizhisai Soundarrajan has slammed Vijay’s Mersal. Addressing reporters in Chennai, Tamizhisai said that the film had dialogues criticising GST and the Centre’s Digital India initiative and that they were in poor taste. Calling for the removal of the dialogues, Tamizhisai said:

“Vijay is intentionally maligning the reputation and good work of our Prime Minister. He wants to enter politics and so he is trying to get the attention of people by criticising GST and Digital India. If these dialogues are not removed, then we will lodge a complaint against the film. We will file a lawsuit.”

Mersal faced several roadblocks before its release. Recently, a protest was staged by pro-Kannada outfit at a theatre screening the film in Bengaluru.
