Speaking to Silverscreen, T Rajendar said: “Alcoholism is a menace to society. So many lives have been lost or destroyed by alcohol. It is dangerous, and it is about time we did something about it. Many recent films have portrayed drinking as fun and youngsters are getting influenced by it. I think this is wrong. We need to address this  immediately. People who must take care of this issue are not doing anything about it; so, at least, we must.”

It is an artiste’s responsibility to bring about change in society, he said. “We benefit from society. And society must, in turn, benefit from us. That is the only way to move forward. It is basic human decency to take care of those who live with us. I want to take the first step with this song.”

In future, the actor has also decided to avoid any scenes or imagery that promote smoking in his films. “Like it or not, cinema does influence real life. There are people who are susceptible to what is shown onscreen. So, we must all vow to ensure such ideas are not propagated through our work.”

At present, T Rajendar is working on his Indraya Kaadhal Da. The movie seeks to understand and explain modern-day relationships. Namitha plays the female lead in the film that has T Rajendar taking care of the music, screenplay, dialogues and direction.

Kabilan, who helped with the screenwriting of Kavan and Vivegam, has written the lyrics for quite a few hit numbers, including ‘Kaadhalaada’ in Vivegam.
