Seeman On Chinmayi’s Allegations: “She Is Being Used By BJP To Discredit Vairamuthu”

Politician and filmmaker Seeman, in a recent press interaction, levelled sensational accusations against singer Chinmayi. The director said that Chinmayi’s recent allegations against Vairamuthu were orchestrated by the Bharatiya Janata Party, and that the singer’s actions were wrong.

Seeman, the chief coordinator of Naam Tamilar Katchi, said that the campaign against Vairamuthu was operated by the RSS and BJP to discredit him. “He wrote about Andal and it offended many so-called Hindu nationalists. The BJP is now trying to take revenge for Vairamuthu ayya’s remarks, and has launched Chinmayi into the spotlight so that they can achieve their plans through her.”

He also expressed disbelief at how Chinmayi sat on her sexual harassment allegations for so long. “She invited her own harasser to her wedding? I don’t understand her logic with this,” he told reporters at the interaction. “She is talking about events that allegedly happened a decade ago. Why did she continue to interact with him and talk so glowingly about him for the longest time after this? I don’t find her accusations credible at all.”

Seeman stuck to his stance in a private conversation with Silverscreen as well. “I am absolutely sure that Chinmayi is nothing but a pawn in this game. Vairamuthu ayya is like a mentor to me. He is my guru, you could say. There is just no way he would do something like this. Everybody making these allegations have been asked to do so by RSS members and BJP party workers. This is a conspiracy to discredit one of the most important literary voices from Tamil Nadu.”

When told that Chinmayi had made her revelations as part of the ongoing #MeToo movement on social media, Seeman said that it was impossible for an internet movement to spark such a challenging decision. “I don’t see how the internet can provoke such a reaction from any human being,” he added.

Chinmayi was unavailable for a comment.

The singer, earlier this week, had accused lyricist Vairamuthu of sexual harassment. She had also shared screenshots of conversations she had with other victims of Vairamuthu. In a post on her official social media account, Chinmayi said that she was asked to visit Vairamuthu’s hotel room after a music album release event held in Switzerland in the year 2005/06. The singer said that the organiser of the event urged her to ‘co-operate’, but he put her foot down and left for Chennai immediately. Apparently, the organiser told her that she ‘would not have a career if she refused’ to submit to Vairamuthu’s demand.
