The teaser of the much-anticipated Vijay starrer Sarkar was unveiled on Friday evening. The teaser which shows Vijay as an NRI out to reform elections has already reached a record breaking 10 million likes in just five hours, making it the fastest to reach the mark.
Previously, the teaser of Rajinikanth starrer 2.0 reached 5.9 million views in Tamil in 9 hours, although it reached 14.7 million views in all the three languages. The Sarkar teaser surpassed not just other films, it beat the record of Vijay-starrer Mersal too.

The teaser offered a glimpses of Vijay’s life abroad, liberally sprinkled with scenes of disco lights, foreign women and luxurious limos. He is the sort of man who makes news when he comes back home. He is a corporate leader with social responsibility who visits his nation to vote in the election. Like Mersal which took on Digital India, and corporate healthcare and corruption, it looks like Sarkar will deal with the Indian election and politics.
Pegged to be a political thriller, Sarkar also stars Keerthy Suresh in the lead, with actors Pala Karuppiah, Radha Ravi, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Yogi Babu in pivotal roles. Music has been composed by AR Rahman, and Girish Gangadharan of Angamaly Diaries fame is the cinematographer. The film was shot in Chennai, with some crucial sequences set in Kolkata and Las Vegas.
The film, directed by AR Murugadoss is slated to release on Diwali competing with Gautham Menon’s Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta. Earlier Ajith’s Viswasam and Suriya’s NGK were scheduled to release during Diwali. However, the former will now have a Pongal release, while the final date for Suriya’s film is yet to be announced.
