As the Sarkar team gets ready to release the film in a couple of weeks, the plagiarism case against director AR Murugadoss is showing no signs of going away. The South Indian Writers’ Association is investigating the complaint filed by Varun Rajendran, who says that the script of his Sengol and that of Sarkar are one and the same. Sarkar has Vijay essay the role of a CEO (Sundar) of a multi national company who comes back to India to vote in the upcoming elections. While doing so, he finds out that someone else has cast the vote in his name.
Rajendran says in his complaint that he wrote the script for Sengol and registered it with the writers union in 2007. He also says that he narrated the script to SA Chandrasekhar, actor Vijay’s father. He says that recently, he was informed that the plot elements in Sarkar were similar to his own script. Following this, Varun lodged a complaint.
A spokesperson for the writers’ union told Silverscreen that attempts are being made to thoroughly investigate the situation and find a solution to this. “We have received a complaint from a member of our union. A team is looking into the issue. As of now, there are no updates on the situation.”
Sarkar’s team has no comment on the issue thus far. A spokesperson for the film maintains that they have nothing to say on the issue. “The film is based on a real life incident and is completely a fresh script,” the spokesperson told Silverscreen.
Bhagyaraj, President of the Writers union, is reportedly heading the team that is investigating the plagiarism complaint. Sources tell us that last minute talks are on, between Varun Rajendran and Sarkar director AR Murugadoss.

If these talks fail, insiders tell us that a press meet will be held later this week wherein Varun Rajendran will discuss the issue with the media.
This is second time that AR Murugadoss has been slapped with a plagiarism complaint. In 2014, Gopi Nainar (who later directed Nayanthara in Aramm) accused AR Murugadoss of using his story to make Kaththi. The allegations were not proven and the film went on to release in theatres later that year. Incidentally, Vijay was also the star of that movie.
