Rukmini Vijayakumar In Mani Ratnam’s ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’

Actress-danseuse Rukmini Vijayakumar, known for her roles in Ananda Thandavam and Kochadaiiyaan, will next be seen in Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai. An accomplished classical dancer, Rukmini debuted as an actress through director Bharathiraja’s suspense thriller Bommalattam in 2008.

Kaatru Veliyidai, written, directed and produced by Mani Ratnam, has Karthi Sivakumar and Aditi Rao Hydari playing the lead roles. Touted to be a romantic-drama, the film will have songs tuned by Mani Ratnam’s regular collaborator A R Rahman. Ravi Varman will be handling the camera for the project, and Vairamuthu will be writing the lyrics.

The shoot began early this month in Ooty.

It was recently reported that actor Delhi Ganesh will soon join the cast of Kaatru Veliyidei. Radio Jockey (RJ) Balaji has also been roped in to play Karthi’s best friend in the film. Actress Shraddha Srinath, known for her lead role in the recent Kannada film U-Turn, is also a part of the cast.

Mani Ratnam’s last film, O Kadhal Kanmani, starring Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menon, was a major box-office hit in 2015. A Bollywood remake of this film titled ‘ Ok Jaanu’ , starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor and directed by Shaad Ali, is currently underway.

Meanwhile, Karthi’s upcoming film Kashmora, directed by Gokul of Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara fame is expected to hit the screens soon.
