Nalan Kumarasamy To Make A Web-Series Titled ‘Kalyanamum Kadanthu Pogum’

From novels to films and TV series, weddings stories have been one of the most celebrated themes. Critically acclaimed filmmaker Nalan Kumarasamy, of Soodhu Kavvum and Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum fame, debuts onto the digital platform with the web-series Kalyanamum Kadanthu Pogum.

A comic take on weddings, the web-series will have 10 episodes, with each having a different story. The series will throw light on the absurdities of a wedding and capture the true essence of weddings through the shades of dowry, love and relationship among the elderly, long distant relationships and remarriage.

“Each episode will have a different story and will have contrasting angles. But the common premise would be about each character desperately looking to get married. It will have a realistic approach, but treated in satirical style,” said producer Sameer.

The web-series has been shot across Tamil Nadu – Chennai, Thanjavur, Salem, Pollachi, Coimbatore and Ooty. The story will travel through the lives of people from different cadres in society, who desire to get married. The web-series will be released on VIU.

This is, however, not the only Tamil web-series on the offer. In 2017,  Maari director Balaji Mohan released the web-series As I’m Suffering from Kadhal. The 10-part series focused on the lives of three young couples, a young divorced man and his eight-year-old daughter.

“It’s a subject I’ve explored in different ways, and this time with a series. The theme would resonate with the urban audiences across the country and I wanted this show to reach all of them. Hotstar, with its massive reach, is the ideal medium to do so,” Balaji Mohan earlier told The Times of India.

Prabhuram Vyas’s Livin’ on YouTube saw people moving from the Tamil daily soaps on television to the digital platform. Livin’ features a 20-something couple who move in together. All’s well until a third character moves in with them. The series stars Amrutha Srinivasan and Kanna Ravi in lead roles.

Seven episodes of Livin’ are available on the YouTube channel of Madras Central.
