Madhan Karky on Ladio From I

Lyricist Madhan Karky has penned three songs for I. In Ladio, Karky has used a few uncommon Tamil words, on director Shankar’s request for a song featuring names of everyday commercial products. “We used words like Colgate and Talcum Powder. But when the song was written, we realised that it didn’t sound great. So I suggested that we replace those names with Tamil words,” said Karky.

Ladio is rendered by Nikita Gandhi and the song features EDM elements. “It’s an experimental effort. And I hope the lyrics lend a refreshing effect to the song,” he added.

The lyricist has always employed rare Tamil words in his songs. “I strongly believe that it is one of the best tools to learn a new language, and new words. I have written about such uncommon Tamil words in my blogs and other articles. But with songs, there’s wider reach.”

Karky is more pleased with Ladio because it has been composed by AR Rahman. “I couldn’t have asked for a bigger platform to promote these beautiful Tamil words,” he said.
