Kamal Haasan, in his recent column for Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan, revealed that his colleague and fellow aspiring politician, Rajinikanth, had known about his political aspirations long before it was made public.

A day after announcing the name of his party, Haasan’s column has the upcoming politician narrate how he broke the news to his friend and soon-to-be rival.

Around the time when Haasan was shooting for Bigg Boss Tamil, he proposed to meet Rajinikanth as he was shooting for Kaala in a nearby location.

“Shall we meet secretly I asked… we later sat inside a car and discussed. I spoke about the decisions I had made,” he wrote, adding that he arranged the meeting so that Rajini knew about his decision to enter politics before anybody else.

Speaking fondly of his ‘friend’, Haasan wrote that Rajini had been mentally prepared to hear about his political plunge. “We decided that there shall be no compromise in dignity for whatever reason. I told him that even if we are in opposing camps, the respect (for each other) should be maintained,” he wrote, adding, it was akin to a ‘yudh dharma.’

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth said that he has seen Haasan’s political launch and though their ideologies may differ, the goal is the same: doing good for people. The actor also said that he will be appointing office-bearers soon for his political outfit.

On the eve of February 21, amidst a crowd of almost 20,000 people and with Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by his side, he launched the name and flag of his party – Makkal Needhi Maiam – in Madurai.

Rajinikanth, on the other hand, had announced his political plunge on December 31 but is yet to announce his party name. Before his political tour, Haasan paid Rajini a visit, with the two speaking fondly of each other. Wishing Haasan the best, Rajini and Haasan refused to comment on the possibility of an alliance in the future.

Meanwhile, Haasan is reportedly slated to hold a public meeting of his party in Tiruchirappally on April 4.
