Vetrimaaran revealed that he wanted an ‘A’ certificate for his Vada Chennai. The A certificate was necessary in order to stay truthful to the content of the movie, the director said at press meet of the movie.
Boasting a stellar cast that includes Dhanush, Aishwarya Rajesh, Amir, Andrea Jeremiah, Samuthirakani and Kishore, Vada Chennai has been touted an epic film and talks about the lives of the people in the area of the North Chennai. Dhanush plays a carrom player who hopes to play in the national arena someday.
Vetrimaaran says “This is a movie that talks about the lifestyle of the people living in the area. For doing that in an authentic manner, we have to capture their expressions. We have captured these emotions as it is.”
The director was presented with two options – He could either agree to certain cuts to obtain a U/A certificate or accept an A certificate while retaining the original version; the director went with the latter option. “I wanted to stay truthful to the content and hence decided to retain the original version and went with the ‘A’ certificate,” he said.

In another interview, he said, “I don’t want my daughters to watch this movie till they are 16.” When asked if he was afraid to lose an audience of women and children, Vetrimaran said, “For Vada Chennai, I don’t think we have that audience.”
Produced by Dhanush under the banner of Wunderbar Studios, Vada Chennai has been receiving praises from all quarters. The cinematography is handled by Velraj while the soundtrack of the movie has been composed by Santhosh Narayanan. The soundtrack marks the composer’s 25th album. Vada Chennai is the first part of a planned trilogy.
