Musician Sindhuja Rajaram has come out with fresh allegations against poet and lyricist Vairamuthu. Also, an artist and photographer based out of California, Rajaram, who had already shared her story through singer Chinmayi Sripada’s Twitter account, decided to identify herself in public to pledge solidarity with the singer.

The 32-year-old said in an interview that she decided to come out in public as she felt Chinmayi was bearing the brunt for being the only person to have spoken up against Vairamuthu. “I felt I needed to support her and the other victims as I believed them and their stories,” she said.

Rajaram said that she first met Vairamuthu at the age of 18 when she and her parents had gone to meet the lyricist at his Kodambakkam office to inquire about the hostel he ran for girls. Things began to turn bad when he started calling her asking to meet up at his offices. He even professed love for her which she turned down saying that he was a father-figure to her.

Rajaram claims to have heard of a woman who worked at Sun TV and faced a similar situation where Vairamuthu would keep calling her. This stopped only when she reported it to the deputy managing director of the channel.

Rajaram maintains that her decision to come out was solely because she wanted to lend support to the other women who have come out against Vairumuthu anonymously. “Even now, my intention is only to stand with the women who have suffered harassment by him,” she said.

“I could connect to their stories because they were part of a pattern – same sort of phone calls, same offices at Besant Nagar and Teynampet. I stand with Chinmayi though I do not know her too well. And I have the full support of my husband,” she added.

Lauding Chinamyi for taking a firm stand, Rajaram requested people to listen to the victims instead of judging them.
