Harivarasanam Award for Gangai Amaren

Veteran director, music composer, singer, and host Gangai Amaren has been bestowed with the distinguished Harivarasanam award sponsored by the Government of Kerala and the Travancore Devasom Board.

Gangai Amaren marked his entry to the Tamil industry as a lyricist and won his first National award for his maiden song ‘Sendhoora Poove’ in 1977. He had penned the song for the blockbuster 16 Vayathiniley. He is also the younger brother of music meastro Ilayaraja.

Gangai Amaren will receive the award from Minister Kadakampilly Surendran which includes a cash amount of INR 1 lakh. The award ceremony will take place on January 14 at the Sabarimala Devasthanam.

The award is presented to encourage artists who deliver their invaluable contribution to propagate the spirit of secularism and patriotism. Stalwarts like K J Yesudas and SP Balasubrahmanyam are recipients of the Harivarasanam award.
