In the interview, Dhanush said:

“For the both of us to work together, the film needs to be made on a grand scale. More importantly, it needs to have the right script.”

The actor also revealed plans to work on Maari 2 with director Balaji Mohan. “Everybody except Kajal Aggarwal will return for the sequel. This will have even more of an emotional impact than the first film. Also, we’re introducing three new characters in the sequel.”

Dhanush was also questioned on his apparent reluctance to work with young music composer Anirudh Ravichander. Anirudh was introduced by Dhanush through Moonu (3). The duo went on to work together till Maari (2015).

Dhanush explained:

“Anirudh’s music has a western feel to it. When I feel that my script needs that kind of music, we’ll definitely collaborate. I’m not the kind of person to push a music composer to make scores based on my demands. I’d rather find a composer who suits my script than push someone to make the kind of music they don’t believe in. That’s it. I don’t have any issues with Anirudh.”

The actor cast Bollywood star Kajol in a role with shades of gray in his upcoming VIP 2. Dhanush said that the actress’ role cannot be defined as the villain. “From my point of view, something you do may seem wrong, but from yours, I may seem wrong. Just because we don’t share the same wavelength, it does not mean that one person is the hero and the other is the villain. Same way, Kajol madam’s character in the film has some attributes that put her in direct conflict with my character (Raghuvaran). That’s all. We cannot fix her as the villain just based on this fact.”

Dhanush also revealed that 60 percent of Kaala’s shooting was over. “I am overjoyed at the opportunity to work with Rajinikanth sir. I have 10-15 lines ready to narrate to him, but so far, we’ve not had the right opportunity. That aside, shooting on Kaala is progressing at a rapid pace. This film will definitely not release this year. Kaala will release only after 2.0″

The actor said that only 15 days of shoot was left for Vada Chennai’s first part to be complete. “Vada Chennai will be a milestone in my career, 90 percent of the work on the film is over. Vetrimaaran and I watched whatever we’d shot together. This is his best work so far. It leaves Aadukalam, Polladhavan behind in terms of expertise. I hope people feel the same way. I am not sure if anybody has shown north Madras in such a raw, real way. Vada Chennai has been written in such a way that every main plot point branches off into several sub-plots. We’ve tried real hard to fit the first part within the two and a half hour time frame.”

Dhanush’s Velaiyilla Pattathari 2 releases on August 11.
