Chennai’s Iconic Binny Mills, Shooting Spot For Many Films, To Be Demolished

The headquarters of Binny Mills, which features on the draft list of heritage buildings of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), is being demolished. An application was submitted to the Greater Chennai Corporation and the Department of Housing and Urban Development of Tamil Nadu stating that the 200-year-old heritage building had recently been gutted by a fire and was therefore, unfit for occupancy. Based on this, a no-objection certificate was granted for the demolition, according to a report in The Times Of India.

The demolition process began two days ago.

Director Pushkar took to social media to express his sadness at the demolition of such an iconic building. His recent, Vikram Vedha, was shot in the building.

Built by John Binny and his partner, Dennison, the building is one among the most prominent landmarks in Chennai. It measured over 35,000 square feet, and is situated in Armenian Street, North Madras.
