Ajith Fans Erect A Statue Of The Actor Ahead Of Vivegam’s Release

Vivegam‘s release date, August 24, was confirmed yesterday, and the Vivegam festival has begun across Tamil Nadu. As part of celebrations, Ajith fan club members from Kumbakonam will be unveiling a statue of the actor at the association venue tomorrow.

Though Ajith, like many other stars, had asked fans to not spend so much money and time on such celebrations, the fans seem undeterred.

A member from the Ajith fan association said, “Kumbakonam Thala fan club members have been working on the statue for the past one month. This Thala statue is based on Thala’s still from Vivegam. This particular look of Thala from the film’s teaser is also our favourite, and that’s why we chose this.”

He added, ‘Though our Thala has been telling us not to spend money on all these, we see this as an expression of love for him. We cannot refrain from celebrating Vivegam‘s release.”

The statue, which cost approximately Rs 1 lakh, has been funded by fans of the actor from across the state.

In January, a Facebook fan club erected a statue for Vijay at a theatre in Chrompet, Chennai, before the release of Thalaiva. As the film was facing release issues, fans chose Vijay’s Thalaiva get-up, Vishwa-bhai, for the statue.

It came from their love for their Thalapathy, they said.

In 2014, Nayanthara’s fans wanted to build a temple for the actress, but the actress asked her fans not to compare her to a deity. She told them to drop the idea of building a temple for her. And they did.

In 2012, when Hansika was acting in seven projects back-to-back, her fans went ahead and began constructing a temple in her name. Reportedly, it was her fans from Madurai who initiated the temple work. But when she requested them to stop, the idea was eventually dropped.

Curiously, most of these statues don’t necessarily resemble the stars. Ajith’s statue may end up looking like that of Sylvester Stallone and Vijay’s like Ragava Lawrence. The latest Ajith statue, meanwhile, bears a strange resemblance to Enthiran‘s Chitti.
