Following speculations that Nadigar Sangam General Secretary and the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) President Vishal would contest in RK Nagar by-polls set to happen on December 21, the actor now seems to have confirmed his participation.
Vishal, who is said to be contesting as an independent candidate, has told The Hindu that he would “reveal” the reasons for contesting the by-polls after filing his nomination papers on Monday.
The results for the by-polls will be announced on December 24.
Also, doing the rounds are several unconfirmed reports that director Ameer would also be contesting the RK Nagar by-polls.
Candidates of the AIADMK – E Madhusudhanan – and the DMK – M Maruthuganesh – filed their nominations on Friday. TTV Dhinakaran, who recently lost the ‘two leaves’ symbol to the AIADMK camp with Chief Minister K Palaniswamy at the helm – had also filed his papers for the RK Nagar seat as an independent candidate. On Saturday, Dhinakaran had declared assets worth Rs 74 lakh, while E Madhusudhanan’s assets amounted to Rs 1.49 crore and M Maruthuganesh’s assets were valued at Rs 12.57 lakh.
The by-polls, which were set to take place in April this year, were rolled back when it was found that voters were being influenced extensively with monetary compensations.
