The Weekly Roundup : July 20 To 26, 2014

A lot of selfies, some parties, and the inevitable Producer – Actor face off : Just another week in the Tamil Film Industry.

Sunday : A Fashionable Weekend

As the Aadi season set in, Tamil film events gradually wound down. Not the case with fashion shows however. As if saying ‘Aadiyavadhu Padiyavadhu’, Storm Fashion organised the Chennai International Fashion Week and gave our photographers a legitimate excuse to go stare…err shoot supermodels. We got three days worth of fashion, fun and famous faces and walked away very satisfied with ourselves.

Monday : Of Star Selfies and Parties

Kadavul Paathi Mirugam Paathi is how we feel when we wake up on a Monday morning andhave to go to work. It was funny (or should we say punny) how the audio launch that we went to had the same premise (and title). Actress Pooja Umashankar, in a very lovely pink jumpsuit, was on hand to promote the event and spent nearly an hour posing for selfies with fans. Actor Dhanush celebrated the success of his Velaiyilla Pattathari with the Shamitabh team and we  learnt of yet another star grandson making his way into tamil films.

Bang Bang Bang Tuesday

We watched a special screening of Anjaan songs with three hundred of Surya’s fans and walked away with a bad case of tinnitis. Yes, that much screaming. Also, release dates were announced. Vishal will bring his Poojai out this Deepavali while the STR flick Idhu Namma Aalu will release in September.  In what has now become a neverending saga, Jigarthanda got postponed, yet again. This time though, it sort of became a big issue. Kamal Haasan’s Drishyam got into some serious legal trouble as well, with not one but two different people claiming copyright over the story.

Silverscreen special of the day : The VIP actor Amitash Pradhan talks to us about breaking stereotypes and not breaking bones onscreen in Atypical.

Also, high quality and highly flattering pictures of everybody that attended the Anjaan songs premiere.

Wednesday: All Suriya All Day

So, Wednesday saw Suriya turn 39 (say what?) and the formal release of Anjaan’s audio. Suriya also hinted at the possibility of  Jyothika making a comebacksoon. The actor kind of knew that his fans might get crazy and put up flex banners all over the city so he appealed to them to do something charitable instead.

Also, R Parthiepan made waves by announcing that he was a part of Masss.

Thursday: Thieves ‘n Teeth

Thursday was all drama. Stuff was stolen from Anushka Shetty’s Rudramadevi sets, Rakul Preet Singh drove abike and Madhavan spoke of something called a ‘dental transformation‘. As if this wasn’t enough, we also met the team behind theheartbreaking Pulipaarvai and the terrifying Mooch.

Harris Jayaraj told us about this song he composed for the new Ajith movie and a popular Malayalam actress joined the Ajith 55 team.

Some Chennai Love for Friday

The world woke up Friday morning to the news that Samantha Ruth Prabhu was coming back to Chennai, where she belonged. While her spokesperson called the move ‘a convenient one’, we knew what the real reason was – Sorgame Endraalum and all that.

In news that surprised nobody, the twitter accounts of K Balachander and Visu were found to be fake. Also, Suriya will go to Kerala soon, Nasser became an ambassador for UNICEF and other such important stories.

A D V E R T I S E M E N T

Silverscreen Special of the Day: There are interviews and there is this :The Illusionist, where Art Director Sabu Cyril talks about creating sets that are so good, they are real.

Saturday: A Slow News Day. Not.

You’d think Saturday would be the day nothing happens. So not the case this week. The Producer’s council issued a stern warning to Siddharth and asked him not to interfere in the Jigarthanda release date issue; STR deniedbeing a part of Ajith 55 but took the time to assure his fans that he is still on good terms with Ajith; Ilaiyaraaja signed up for his 1001th movie while Kamal Haasan consented to be the chief guest for the Sigaram Thodu audio launch.

Review Watch

This week’s release Thirumanam Enum Nikkah, starring Jai and Nazriya Nazim received lukewarm reviews at best. Excerpts from our review:

Raghavan and Vishnu Priya finally discover that they belong to the same religion after all; but they are extremely unhappy about it.

Such a sheer waste of such Islamic finery. Really.
