Weekend Watch: Peechankai, Uru, Maragadha Nanayam

Peechankai: Releasing Today (June 15)

The eerie similarity between this poster and that of Aamir Khan-starrer PK did get the director, Ashok, in some trouble. He said, “It was a conscious decision to rip-off the poster design of PK. So as to pun on the alien aspect in PK. Here, the hero’s hand acts like an alien. That is why the tagline of the film is ‘alien-handed’.”

Peechankai will see RS Karthik play the role of a pick-pocket who suffers from ‘alien hand syndrome’ after he meets with an accident. “He manages to join a kidnapping gang and how he survives forms the rest of the story,” the director explained.

Touted as a dark comedy, the movie has been shot in and around Chennai and has been bankrolled by PG Media Works and Karsa Entertainment.

Releasing today, Peechankai also stars Anjali Rao, Vivek Prasanna and MS Bhaskar in major roles.

Uru: Releasing Tomorrow (June 16)

Uru is Kabali fame Sai Dhansika’s second release in 2017, after Enga Amma Rani.

A thriller directed by Vicky Anand, it will also feature actor Kalaiyarasan essaying the role of a novelist

Uru has been produced by VP Viji and has music by Johan Shevanesh. Prasanna S Kumar has cranked the camera. Sai Dhaniska, in an interview with DC, stated that the movie does not belong to the horror genre. “Many have misconstrued Uru as a horror thriller. But, it is a psychological thriller and I play the wife of a struggling writer essayed by Kalaiyarasan. I have undergone several hardships both physically and mentally since the movie was shot in Kodaikanal in the month of December – at 4°C.”

Maragatha Naanayam: Releasing Tomorrow (June 16)

Said to be a fantasy adventure film, Maragadha Naanayam, helmed by ARK Saravan, will see Aadhi and Nikki Galrani in lead roles.

This is Aadhi’s first release in the last two years, and the actor had said in an interview that Maragadha Naanayam wouldn’t be a hero centric movie. “The film appealed more to the moviegoer in me. The story revolves around five characters.”

Aadhi is teaming up with Nikki Galrani for the second time in the movie, having earlier worked with her in Yagavarayinum Naa Kaakka

The movie features music by Dhibu Ninan Thomas.
