Celebrities Shoulder Flooded Chennai On The Streets & Social Media

Chennai is reeling under the worst floods it has seen in a century. Several Kollywood celebrities have used their popularity and fanbase on social media to efficiently communicate with survivors and relief workers, and coordinate rescue efforts.

On the morning of December 2, actor Siddharth tweeted a picture of his now-waterlogged home.

Popular radio jockey R Balaji, along with Siddharth, began rescue efforts via Twitter, and arranged a convoy of vehicles to reach stranded people, and collect and distribute food packets.

The duo created a hashtag – #ChennaiMicro to make relief efforts easier.

Actor Udayanidhi Stalin immediately responded to Siddharth’s tweet:

Actor Karunakaran chipped in soon:

Actress and director Lakshmi Ramakrishnan was also active on Twitter yesterday:

Actor Vishal Krishna and singer Chinmayi were out in the streets, carrying out relief efforts on the road at a time when phone lines were down and communication difficult.

When a national media journalist tried to appreciate the ‘Hindu-Muslim harmony’ in the time of flood, Chinmayi retorted thus:

Geethanjali Selvaraghavan, on behalf of her family, tweeted:

Director Vignesh Sivan offered his help in taking calls for help around:

Malayalam actor Mammooty made his Anna Nagar house available for anyone who needed shelter in the area:
