Theatres across Tamil Nadu will be shut down from July 3 onwards. The decision has been taken because of the TN Government’s move to impose an additional local tax on top of the Goods and Services Tax. As a result, ticket prices and production costs have seen an increase. Theatre owners and producers feel that this could prove detrimental to the industry.

The shooting of Suriya’s Thaana Serndha Koottam has been cancelled. News reports attributed this to Vishal’s fiery speech at a Kannada audio launch event earlier this week. Vishal had said that it was the right of every Tamilian to ask for water from Karnataka. This speech is said to have incensed pro-Kannada activists who allegedly disrupted the shooting of TSK. A spokesperson for the film, though, has denied all such reports.
