Writer Leena Manimegalai recently stated that she was sexually harassed in the early days of her career. Leena said that a (then) young and upcoming director had tried to assault her in his car after an interview. While she managed to escape the situation, she did not know how to handle it, and repressed the memory and the incident for a long time, as she did not want it to affect her career.
Commenting on the number of filmmakers who came out in support of the Malayalam actress who was harassed recently, Leena said that while she found such actions honourable, filmmakers should first try and control the misogyny and sexism they pass off as films in the Tamil cinema industry.
