Writers Guild Awards 2017: ‘Moonlight’ Edges Out ‘La La Land’ For Screenplay Award

The 69th edition of Writers’ Guild Awards had some surprises in store for the audience this year. For starters, the event was held in two separate places. Patton Oswalt hosted the one in Los Angeles, while a separate event was conducted in New York.

Also, in a surprising ng) turn of events, Moonlight edged out Damian Chazelle’s La La Land to win the Writers’ Guild Awards most coveted title – ‘Best Screenplay’. The film’s writer-director Barry Jenkins accepted the award and said, “A lot of people back home are watching this and they see me doing these things and they get inspired. But what I want to say is, I can’t say that writing will get you from where you are to this stage, but my experience is that it will get you closer to who you are.”

Among the TV award winners, The Americans bagged the Best Drama Series award while Atlanta took home the award for Best Comedy series.
