Also, in a surprising ng) turn of events, Moonlight edged out Damian Chazelle’s La La Land to win the Writers’ Guild Awards most coveted title – ‘Best Screenplay’. The film’s writer-director Barry Jenkins accepted the award and said, “A lot of people back home are watching this and they see me doing these things and they get inspired. But what I want to say is, I can’t say that writing will get you from where you are to this stage, but my experience is that it will get you closer to who you are.”

Among the TV award winners, The Americans bagged the Best Drama Series award while Atlanta took home the award for Best Comedy series.
