Aanaparambile World Cup is Nikhil’s directorial debut. He has also written the film’s screenplay. “This is a football-based fantasy drama narrated  through the characters of seven children. One of them is a fan of Lionel Messi. During the World Cup season, they attempt to form a football team. Antony Varghese plays a professional footballer who arrives to mentor the children and help them in their cause. Raghunath Paleri appears in a brief but important role, as a doctor,” the director told Silverscreen.

The film has cinematography by Faiz Siddik and music by Jakes Bejoy, and the cast includes Saiju Kurup, Balu Varghese and Manoj K Jayan.

Raghunath Paleri, who was a regular collaborator of directors such as Sathyan Anthikkad in the 80s and early 90s, is known for screenwriting films such as My Dear Kuttichathan (1984), Mele Parambil Aanveedu and Ponmuttayidunna Tharavu. He has also directed a handful of films such as Onnu Muthal Poojyam Vare (1986) and Vismayam. His stories are characterised by relatable characters and fictional landscapes that blend in reality and fantasy. In Thottappan, he played a sub-character, a blind shopkeeper.

Antony Varghese recently attended the world premiere of his film Jallikkattu, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, at the Toronto International Film Festival. Aanaparambile World Cup is the fourth feature film of Antony, who made his debut through Lijo’s Angamaly Diaries in 2015. This year, it is said he might make his debut in Tamil with director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film, playing the antagonist against Vijay.
