Kerala Women’s Commission Slams Tamil Dailies For Naming Abduction Survivor

Kerala Women’s Commission has slammed Tamil dailies and online portals for naming the abduction survivor. Allegedly, photos of the survivor were also carried in the dailies.

Chairperson MC Josephine has asked her Tamil Nadu counterpart to take immediate action in the issue, and has also notified the TN Public Relations Director.

Despite a law that specifically prohibits naming the victim of sexual assault, some Tamil magazines have been carrying articles with the name and the photo of the victim. Maalaimalar, Dinamalar, Indiaglitz and Behindwoods all carried news items that mentioned the abduction survivor. Now though, a Behindwoods link to the article has been wiped clean of mentions to the actress, even as the URL contains her name.

Kumudham, a leading Tamil magazine, carried a photo of the actress on its cover page.

Josephine said that stringent action will be taken against those who start malicious campaigns against the victim.

She also asked for the immediate removal of the victim’s name and photo from the articles in which they were used.
