While NGK occupies most screens this weekend, there are no other major releases in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. Devi 2 starring Tamannaah Bhatia and Prabhu Deva is also releasing this week. Tamannaah and Prabhu Deva’s Hindi film Khamoshi was scheduled for release tomorrow, but was postponed to June 14 to avoid a clash.
NGK
Director Selvaraghavan’s NGK stars Suriya, Sai Pallavi, Rakul Preet Singh in the lead. The film, under production for two-and-a-half years, features Suriya as a man aspiring to enter politics. Music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography is by Sivakumar Vijayan and editing by Praveen KL. Production is by SR Prabhu’s Dream Warrior Pictures. The film’s album released recently.
Preparations and promotions have been on in full swing. Suriya’s fans have made a 215 feet cut-out of him outside a theatre in Chennai. The film also got its own emoji on Twitter recently.
The actor said in an interview to TNM, “This is the story of a normal person from a small town who finds his own path once he’s sucked into the political world. The film also explores if you’ll be a change-maker no matter what the odds are… NGK is not based on any political party or an individual. Besides, the intensity of politics changes at every level, right from the village to the state level. There’s a certain universality to the subject, and I’m confident that it’ll resonate with the audience too.”
Devi 2
Written and directed by AL Vijay, the film is a sequel to the hit horror comedy Devi (2016), in which Tamannaah’s character is possessed by the ghost of an actress. In Devi 2, there are two supernatural beings in her life. Prabu Deva, Kovai Sarala, Nandita Swetha, RJ Balaji, Sonu Sood are part of the cast. Music is by Sam CS and lyrics by Na Muthukumar. Cinematograhy is by Ayananka Bose. The film was simultaneously shot in Telugu as Abhinetri 2.
Speaking about the sequel, Tamannaah said in a News 18 interview that she will be reprising her role from the first film but this was one of her more challenging movies, “It required physical transformation and a performance completely different from Khamoshi (which was being made simultaneously). Even if you don’t understand the language, Devi 2 is an extremely entertaining film—it’s horror comedy but it’s not slapstick.”
