In a surprise move, VTV Ganesh has roped in actor Silambarasan to compose the soundtrack of his next production, Sakka Podu Podu Raja. The film stars former comedian Santhanam.
Speaking to Silverscreen, Ganesh said, “I have been friends with Simbu for a long time. He’s a close associate, family friend and well wisher. I am the same to him as well. I’ve always been aware of STR’s talent as a musician. He has collaborated with leading talents from this industry and from all over the world throughout his career. So, it seemed only natural that we’d collaborate too.”
STR has been involved with music throughout his career. He has sung many songs, and has even released two professionally produced independent albums. For one of them, he collaborated with rapper Akon.
Ganesh had earlier told Silverscreen that he was in talks with Harris Jayaraj for the project.
STR has a long and rich association with both Ganesh and Santhanam. Ganesh made his acting debut with STR’s Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya. This sparked a long friendship. STR also had a cameo in Ganesh’s debut production Inga Enna Solluthu, which starred starring Meera Jasmine.

Santhanam made his film debut as a comedian in STR’s Manmadhan. The film was to be a launchpad for Santhanam, whose career then flourished with movies like I and Enthiran, among others. The duo recently collaborated on Vijay Chander’s Vaalu.
Working as a composer might prove to be timely for STR as his acting career is currently in flux. In the past few years, many of his films faced delays, and scandals affected his personal and professional life. STR re-inventing himself as a music composer might give his career that much-needed boost.
The collaboration bodes well for Santhanam as well. A high-profile actor making his music debut in his film has given Sakka Podu Podu Raja some much-needed visibility.
