The film also marks Rakul’s comeback in Kollywood after a gap of two years. Her previous Tamil films – Puthagam and Yennamo Yedho were not successful at the box office. Rakul has had some success in the Telugu film industry though, and is busy with back to back projects. She is currently shooting for the Telugu remake of Thani Oruvan – Dhruva – with Ram Charan, and also has an untitled AR Murugadoss film with Mahesh Babu in the pipeline. Rakul insists that at the end of the day, a film is a film to her. “To me, a film is a film and I do one because I have some inclination towards it. I got a good response for my initial Telugu films and got very busy there. That’s the reason I couldn’t do anything in Tamil. Now, I hope I get the same recognition from the Tamil audience as well and I would like to work in many more Tamil movies,” she told Deccan Chronicle.

Vishal had made announcements regarding the film in March this year. Thupparivaalan’s shooting was delayed for a few months to give Vishal time to complete his other prokects.

The film will be shot mostly in Chennai, with supporting cast yet to be finalised. The music will be composed by Arrol Corelli, who debuted as a music director with Mysskin’s 2015 film Pissaasu.
