In his post, the director talked about meeting the actor and called it positive. He also said that it would be a story for a large canvas. “I had talked to Sri. Mohanlal for a really long time today morning. It was a positive discussion. I would like to announce that Mohanlal and I are going to make a movie together. The story has not been finalized yet. However, I will be beginning the paper work and formalities for the project after completing my new film which goes on floors by the last week of March. The story of the Mohanlal-movie will be said on a huge canvas and it will be a big film. Expecting everyone’s love and co-operation,” Vinayan said.

Vinayan, a former KSEB engineer turned director, debuted in 1989 with Aayiram Chirakulla Moham. The director’s second movie titled Superstar featured an actor called Madanlal who bore striking semblance to Mohanlal. This is believed to have irked Mohanlal who has never worked with the director.

Vinayan has always been at loggerheads with the various film organizations like Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (A.M.M.A). These organizations had banned artists and technicians from working in his movies. One such actor who braved these bans to work on the director’s movies was Thilakan who had to face the wrath of AMMA.

In 2017 the director took this up with the Competitions Commission of India (CCI) which came down heavily upon these organizations and even imposed a fine of Rs. 11 lakhs.

Mohanlal is the newly elected president of AMMA. “I never had a personal vengeance against Mohanlal. I felt that if he becomes president a lot of positive things can happen. He is a man who enjoys a certain position in Malayalam cinema, a man at the top who does not need to be partial to anyone in particular or harbour any prejudices,” said Vinayan to a news portal.

The director hopes to start his film with the actor next year.
