Viji Chandrashekar As Sasikala In Gautham Menon’s Jayalalithaa Biopic

Viji Chandrashekar will play the role of Sasikala in Gautham Menon’s biopic on former Chief Minister J Jayalalitha. While nearly five films on Jayalalithaa’s life have been announced, Gautham Menon said that he was planning to direct a web series based on her political journey. Ramya Krishnan plays the role of Jayalalithaa in the series.

There have been many speculations around Sasikala’s role in film. An official announcement has not been made yet. It is said that actor Vamsi Krishna plays Shoban Babu, and Indrajith is MG Ramachandran. Shoot for the film has already begun and is currently happened in Chennai at AVM Studios. Shoot for sequences involving the popular interview between Simi Garewal and J Jayalalithaa are reportedly on. The series is expected to release sometime soon this year.

According to reports, the director focuses on both the political and personal life of the former AIADMK chief. The series is a 30-hour long one and the makers are paying approximately Rs 1.25 crore to the director for each episode. They are also planning to star Ranjith and Vinith in pivotal roles.

Meanwhile, Jayalalithaa’s biopic by director Priyadharshini will go on floors on February 24, 2019, on the politician’s birthday. Titled The Iron Lady, the film stars Nithya Menen in the titular role. Talks are reportedly on to star Varalaxmi Sarathkumar as VK Sasikala. There has been no confirmation about this yet.

Directors AL Vijay, Bharathiraja and Lingusamy had earlier announced biopics on the late Chief Minister, but there has been no update on their progress. Adithya Bharadwaj and Dasari Narayana Rao also suggested that they may be directing films on Jayalalithaa’s life. The status of these films are also unknown.
