Vijay Sings For AR Rahman For The First Time; Verithanam From ‘Bigil’ Out Now

Bigil, Vijay’s upcoming Diwali film directed by Atlee, has set expectations high as it marks the duo’s third collaboration after Theri and Mersal. Archana Kalpathi, the Creative Producer, who was prodded by fans of the star for updates almost every day, broke her silence four days ago by tweeting this:

She dropped another hint later:

The mystery was over when she finally tweeted a snippet from a composing session. In the video she tweeted were lyricist Vivek, and A.R.Rahman, taking in the lyrics, constructing a basic tune, and Vijay and Atlee looking on. This is the first time Vijay is lending his voice for an AR Rahman composition though the actor been singing playback for long now. (Vijay’s mother Shobha Chandrashekar is a singer as well.)

The team, as promised, released the lyric video at 6 pm last night. In the video, besides Atlee, several dancers and junior artistes can be seen in extravagant sets. Also spotted was Kapees, a young emerging singer from Super Singer Junior, who has lent his voice for this number, danced to the tunes and has shared screen space with Vijay. Touted to be a dance number, the song is written in ‘Chennai’ Tamil. The first line, ‘Nenjukkulla Kudiyirukkum’ has hit a home run with Vijay’s fans since this is how the star addresses them.

Verithanam has clocked 4.3 million views, is first on YouTube trends and has received mixed reviews from the audience for its “could’ve been better but otherwise okay” lyrics.

The movie also stars Nayanthara, Jackie Shroff, Vivek, and Pariyerum Perumal fame Kathir and is all set for a Diwali release.
