A day before the RK Nagar by-election, a video* of late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has reportedly surfaced, showing the AIADMK chief in hospital, sipping juice. The RK Nagar seat had fallen vacant after Jayalalithaa’s death in December last year.
The video was said to have been released by the TTV Dhinakaran-VK Sasikala camp. Reports suggest that it was released to dispel rumours of conspiracy behind the death of the late Chief Minister. The Opposition members, meanwhile, alleged that the video was doctored.
Campaigning for the by-polls ended yesterday, and its outcome would probably determine the true heir of Jayalalithaa.

Madhusudhnanan is contesting from the Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam camp. DMK candidate is N Maruthu Ganesh, while Sasikala’s nephew TTV Dhinakaran is fighting as an independent candidate. Actor Vishal had also filed nominations as an independent candidate but his nomination was rejected.
Polling will be held on December 21 while the votes will be taken up for counting on December 24.
