Vetri told Silverscreen, “Talks are on for the Hindi remake, but the rights have not been sold yet. The remake has not been finalised. Official confirmations will be made soon.” He also said he will agree to act in the Hindi version if the producers approach him.

The film released last week, and stars Vetri, Rohini, Karunakaran, Mime Gopi and others. It is written by Babu Tamizh. The story is a thriller centered on Saravanan (Vetri) and Mani (Karunakaran) who plan a robbery on their landlady which leads to a series of mysterious events.

It has opened to good reviews, and Vetri, who is elated about the response, attributes the film’s success to its content. “People have been coming in after reading good reviews about the film. It’s doing really well and we would like it to run for another week,” he says.

Vetri has been approached for a number of films since his debut with 8 Thottakkal. He says expectations are high because of his choice of films. “I’ll continue acting in content-oriented films and have no plans of taking up commercial roles. I have two projects under production right now. The title and details about these films will be made official soon,” he says.

Director Sri Ganesh’s 8 Thottakkal, which released in 2017, starred Vetri as a cop along with Aparna Balamurali, Nasser and MS Bhaskar in the lead. The film was a crime thriller loosely inspired by a Japanese movie titled Stray Dog. The film opened to good reviews and was a box-office hit. It was later remade in Kannada as 88MM Bullet.

Jiivi and 8 Thottakkal were small-budget productions backed by Vetri’s father M Vellapandian. KS Sundaramurthy was the music composer for both films. Jiivi had cinematography by Praveen Kumar and editing by Praveen KL.
