Varun Dhawan And Sara Ali Khan To Star In ‘Coolie No.1’ Remake

Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan will star in David Dhawan’s remake of his 1991 film Coolie No.1. The movie would mark the third collaboration between the father-son duo after Main Tera Hero and Judwaa 2.

Coolie No.1 featured Govinda and Karishma Kapoor in the lead. The movie was a comedy that depicted Govinda’s coolie character, who after pretending to be a rich businessman, married Karishma Kapoor. The movie also featured Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor and Sadashiv Amrapurkar in pivotal roles. Coolie No. 1’s success led Dhawan to make a string of movies similarly titled Hero No. 1, Biwi No. 1 and Jodi No. 1.

28 years later, the director is set to remake his movie with his son, reported Times Now. Confirming Dhawan’s participation, writer Farhad Samji said “It is a boon for any writer to work with a dedicated actor like Varun. I narrated the dialogue draft to him recently and he immediately asked me for a copy, so he could rehearse his lines even though there is still time for the film to go on the floors.” Varun Dhawan and David Dhawan’s last project – Judwaa 2 was a sequel to the director’s 1997 film starring Salman Khan.

Farhad Samji had penned the dialogues for Rohit Shetty’s Simmba. The movie featuring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan went on to become a huge success. “I am looking forward to teaming up with Sara for the second time,” added the writer.

The writer and director had clarified that the movie would be “an adaptation in a new format” rather than being a remake or sequel.

Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan currently awaits the release of Kalank. The movie, directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar, features Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit, along with younger actors Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapoor. The movie releases on April 17.

Sara Ali Khan will reportedly feature opposite Karthik Aaryan in Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal 2.
