Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, the lead actors of the upcoming historical film Kalank, announced that the film has wrapped its shoot. The actors posted about it on social media.

Directed by 2 States fame Abhishek Varman, Kalank features an ensemble cast comprising of Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt. The movie, jointly produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala, marks the coming together of Dhawan and Bhatt for the fourth time. The film is reportedly set in the 1940s.

The story of Kalank was planned by Karan Johar and his father Yash Johar, 15 years ago. “Kalank has been an emotional journey for me. It is a gem of an idea that I had nearly 15 years ago, and a film that was in a pre-production stage helmed by my father. I am now proud to pass it onto the extremely capable and visionary hands of director Abhishek Varman. Kalank has a beautifully structured story by Shibani Bathija and an exceptionally fluid narrative and screenplay by Abhishek,” said Karan Johar.

Shoot for the movie had to reportedly be stalled last year, because of the presence of two large snakes on the sets. A source was quoted saying that the team was given a 45-day schedule, and all precautions were taken. The shoot, however, came to a halt as the snakes were huge and people thought they were poisonous. After ensuring the safety of the entire cast, the snakes were taken back to the jungle, added the source.

The movie also made news when Varun Dhawan received ‘battle scars’ while reportedly shooting battle scenes for the movie.

Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon are rumoured to be making special appearances in songs for the film. Music for the movie is by Pritam. It is scheduled to release on April 19.
