Vadivelu Teams Up With Sakthi Chidhambaram For Horror Comedy ‘Pei Mama’

Comedy actor Vadivelu, who remains as popular among the audience despite his rare onscreen appearances, is said to have signed a new film titled Pei Mama. Directed by Sakthi Chidhambaram,  whose last release was the middling Charlie Chaplin 2, the film is pegged to be a horror comedy. The poster of the film, which was revealed yesterday, did not carry the production house’s name, though. This has led to speculation if the project will ever take off, or be put on hold like two other films the actor had signed up for. However, sources say an official announcement regarding the film and its cast and crew is expected soon.

According to a report in Cinema Expressa source close to the film team was quoted as saying, “The title of the film is confirmed, and Vadivelu is playing the lead. But the image that’s getting circulated online is not an official poster from the team. It’s an image that was made for representational purposes, which has been leaked. The film is expected to go on floors soon.”

The poster features the actor in a look reminiscent of his character in the 2011 Prashanth-starrer Mambattiyan, in which he played a landlord. Vadivelu and Sakthi Chidambaram have collaborated on films such as Ennamma KannuKadhal KirukkanEnglishkaaran and Vyaabaari.

Meanwhile, some reports speculate that Yogi Babu may replace Vadivelu in the sequel of Imsai Arasan 24am Pulikesi, after the shoot stopped over creative differences between the actor and director Chimbudevan. After the Producer’s Council stepped in to resolve the issue, he agreed to work, but did not turn up for the shoot. An announcement regarding Yogi Babu’s entry is yet to be made officially, though.

Another hugely popular combination is expected to be back on the big screen when Parthiepan and Vadivelu team up. Actor-director Parithepan said that six months ago, “a producer from the US wanted to make a film with us, and even gave us the advance. However, since director Shankar complained to the Tamil Film Producers’ Council against Vadivelu (regarding his not turning up for the shoot of Imsai Arasan 24am Pulikesi), they are  trying to resolve the issue. Once that is settled, we will start our film”.
