According to a DC report, a source said, “The film is also a supernatural thriller and that is the reason Ekta was keen to remake the film as it falls in her domain.”

Pawan Kumar, who directed the original and the remakes, might work on the Hindi version too. “It is now being said that Ekta may get Pawan to direct the Hindi version. A lot of filmmakers wanted to take over the rights of the film, but Pawan was keen to direct the Hindi remake.”

Pawan Kumar is best known for his film Lucia. The movie, starring Satish Ninasam and Sruthi Hariharan, was the first Kannada film to be crowdfunded. It became a critical and commercial success and was even shortlisted for India’s entry to the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. The movie was also remade in Tamil as Enakkul Oruvan, starring Siddharth.

The Tamil and Telugu remakes of U Turn differed from the original in certain regards. “The last 30 minutes of the Telugu-Tamil version was different from the Kannada one. We have to see what track Ekta takes for the Hindi remake,” added the source.

The story of the original movie revolved around the death of motorists who flouted traffic rules on a particular flyover in Bengaluru. The culprit was finally caught by a rookie journalist and a cop. The movie featured Shraddha Srinath, along with Roger Narayan, Dilip Raj and Radhika Chetan in supporting roles.

U Turn was also remade in Malayalam as Careful in 2017. It was the first Kannada movie to be remade in three other South Indian languages.
