On Sunday, a war of words broke out on Twitter between Silambarasan fans and Udhayanidhi Stalin over the release of Vaalu. It began with a series of tweets from Hariharan Gajendran, a well known Simbu fan on Twitter, who alleged that Udhayanidhi Stalin was using his political clout to book theatres for Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga, which is releasing on August 14: the same day as Vaalu.

Soon, STR fans started to trend tweets with the hashtag ‘#CowardUdhayStalin’ and began abusing the producer/actor over the issue. Udhayanidhi responded by blocking a few of these users, and replied to the allegations.

It must be noted that Udhayanidhi Stalin is not associated with Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga. The film is produced by Arya’s production company, The Show People.
Also, Hariharan Gajendran tweeted that another case has been filed against Vaalu with the backing of Udhayanidhi. But the film’s director Vijay Chandar has refuted the claim. He retweeted this tweet from an STR fan:
