Tollywood To Make Another Biopic On Alluri Seetharama Raju

It’s the season of biopics in Tollywood. First, Mahanati, the biopic on legendary actress Savithri was announced. This was followed by NTR Kathanayakudu, the film portraying the life of the remarkable actor and politician NTR Rama Rao, and then the movie Yatra, on the life of the former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, which is set to release on February 8. Keeping with this trend in Telugu cinema, a biopic on freedom fighter Alluri Seetharama Raju was announced and is all set to go on floors soon.

Director Sunil Kumar Reddy will be directing the film, bankrolled by Risoli Film Academy. Sunil Kumar is known for making small budget films and he has received three Nandi Awards for his children’s movie Hero, and one for the documentary film called Chance. According to reports, pre-production work on the film is going on and the actual shoot may begin in March.

Alluri Seetharama Raju is well-known as a freedom fighter for the Telugu land, especially for leading the Rampa Rebellion during 1922-1924. He is referred to as ‘Manyam Veerudu’ (Solider of  the forest). Rampa Rebbellion began when the British rulers tried to occupy the forest lands of the Godavari region in Andhra Pradesh for economic growth. The war between both, which lasted for two years, came to an end when British authorities caught and killed Seetharama Raju. His brave fight against the British is still remembered by many Telugu people.

The first biopic on the freedom fighter released in 1974. The film titled Seetharama Raju starred yesteryear actor Krishna. Produced by Padmalaya studios, back then the film went on be a super hit and the actor received the prestigious Nandi Award for the film.

The cast and crew for the new biopic are yet to be announced.
